Non-Profit Coaching to Secure For-Profit Funding: Engineers Without Borders – UWM – Guatemala
End consumer brand building opportunities can be tricky for a traditional B2B manufacturer, and expensive – so, when opportunities can be identified and supported it’s a win for the community and for the manufacturer. A former employer focused on ‘Winning Right’ – as an attitude, and a day-to-day sentiment in decision making. Part of that mantra included offering 2% pre-tax profits to non-profits. Engineers without Borders(EWOB), the UWM Chapter provided just such an opportunity to align education, young talent, and future specifiers with hands-on experience via funding and in-kind product donations I served as the connector, influencer and educator about corporate structure and giving to EWOB, Milwaukee.
Connecting the Dots, Doing What Others Will Not: Sequoia Baker, Former Intern to Michelle Obama
How often does a person go exploring? … either, in person, online or through happenstance connections in a given day? Once we meet a person of curiosity do we pursue that opportunity to better understand, who they, what drives them and how we can add value through a chance meet? Well, I am a born explorer. Opportunity crosses my path and I investigate what they could mean for my Life Trifecta: professional work, entrepreneurship and community. I sought Sequoia out after seeing a banner on UWM’s site, about a student that interned at the White House. I sought her out for coffee, and now I would say she is a friend. She – is an overcomer. Sequoia Baker served as Michelle Obama’s intern, She sat one office over from her in the Spring of 2016.
Speaker Management & Preparation: The Wall Street Journal: Women in The Economy
‘What If?’ That’s my internal dialog, daily but particularly when I see opportunity. I pursue it and I ask A LOT of questions. Questions lead to engagement and a significant portion of mouth dropping life experiences. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published an announcement about a national conference and conversation, ‘Women in the Economy.’ Only executives were permitted to attend, and were assessed a sizeable fee to do that. I, was a student … enough said. I wrote the editor of the WSJ, who connected me with the event planning entity. I found myself serving as the assistant to all key-note presenters, behind the main stage!! Think Madaleine Albright, Jack Welch, Gena Davis … all presenters were famous. I covered the flight and lodging. Wow. Anything is possible. Connections are everything.
Talent Co-Chair: The Global Water Center
I said ‘No,’ … until I said, ‘Yes.’ No, does not mean no, forever it only means ‘not right now.’ That is a popular and very true adage. Formerly, I worked for the world’s largest company that cleans water, and served internal and external executives, customers and talent-focused audiences. Historically, I represented my employer at public events, and served as the formal liaison and connector. The Water Council offered me the appointment of Co-Chair to their Talent Committee, and at first I said ‘No.’ Then, I said … ‘Yes.’ I would only see the world of opportunities I said ‘Yes’ to, in retrospect. It was a world of impact for my employer, the people I served at the Water Council, the constituents in water education, companies, students and of course myself.
Seek Out. Listen. & Connect to: Progressive Doers & Thinkers.

Progressive doers and thinkers are the people that change the world … and I actively seek out people to shake up traditional thought. I’m interested in possibility, perspective and adjacent models of growth and differentiation that apply across life in shards. These shards are often so small we sometimes miss them … but the impact of their vision can be monumental. The Good Life Project is one of the most transformational audio experiences I’ve been privvy to, and most recently its on-site entrepreneurship learning experience has shockingly exceeded my highest expectations. By exploring, and choosing to ‘opt in,’ before I see 100% of the vision apparent, … rare professional and life experiences can occur. For me, the Good Life Project podcast served as a catalyst to a new community of creative people, developing new models, while serving others.
